WOLFGANG WEBER

THE WILDLIFE ART OF WOLFGANG WEBER

Gorilla | Elephant | Antelope | Lion | Tiger

Ex-roadshow gorilla print

Born in 1936 in Koblenz, Germany, Wolfgang Weber spent his childhood sketching, drawing and painting. He went to art school in Mainz and worked at Frankfurt Zoo as a volunteer during the holidays. As an adult he went on to become a freelance artist. He was always particularly interested in animals and natural history, although all aspects of the living world stimulated him. As a young man, he tramped on foot through Scandinavia sleeping on deerskin and also worked on a ship in the North Atlantic observing whales.

Wolfgang travels extensively to the wild parts of the world, drawing and painting wherever he goes. What is interesting about this artist is that he shows his skill, not through the portrayal of acute detail, but through an unusual style of aquarelle impressions. His works convey both the strength and the beauty of the animals he observes.

His technique and life have been studied in two “Survival” films, shown by the Independent Television network.
